Q: What exactly do I buy when I make the purchase?
A: You will get a java application that installs onto your mobile phone. This enables you to search the Rough Guides Mobile database, and access information on all sorts of cool places across Europe. You can see where restaurants, cafes, clubs, bars, hotels etc are on a map – and then select which one you want to visit, and also see the street level map so you can navigate there.
Q: Do you have contact details for these places?
A: Yes. There are phone numbers so you can automatically call out from the application to make a booking, or confirm reservations. There are also links to the website where the place has one – so you can get even more information if you need it.
Q: Is the data in the application the same as in the books?
A: Yes, the information – on all 15,000 points of interest is taken from the Rough Guides travel guides. This is branded, trusted and rated information, which means you can trust it to be reliable, informative and up to date. Because it is a mobile application, it means you have access to the information wherever you are, whenever you need it.
Q: Why can’t I install the application on my phone?
A: You must have WAP enabled on your phone to be able to download the application to your phone. If after connecting to the server you still cannot install the application to the phone, there might be an issue with the model of the phone you are trying to install RGM in.
Q: Can I download RGM on the SIM card and use it from any phone?
A: No, the application is installed on the actual phone, so there is no way to store it and use it from the SIM card
Q: If I change phone, is there a way to take the application from the new phone?
A: Currently no, you have to purchase RGM application again
Q: How much data is it downloaded when I search for information on POI’s (Points Of Interest)?
A: Between 300kb and 500kb of data
Q: How does it cost me to use RGM?
A: Although this is dictated by the network you are connected to, each session (300k-500k of data) costs around the same as sending one sms
Q: When will RGM incorporate POI data from other countries / regions?
A: There is a roadmap in place to add new countries and regions into the application.
Q: Can I use RGM from any country, from any network?
A: The only requirement is to have GRPS enabled on your phone to be able to access the central server which stores all the POI data and maps.
Q: The application doesn’t connect to Internet, why is this?
A: The phone must have GPRS connectivity enabled to be able to connect to the server which contains all the data and maps of the POI’s. if the phone is GPRS enabled and it doesn’t connect there might be a problem with the network.
Q: It takes too long to download the POI data and maps, why?
A: The central servers containing all the data to be downloaded by the application has been carefully designed so it is always available and doesn’t bring problems for users of the application to download the data. Speed of the internet connection is dependent on the actual network being connected to
Q: Am I able to search for a POI that is near my current location?
A: This functionality (Location Based Service) will be incorporated shortly to the application
